Cultural Bonanza at Minjar Fair

Shrouded by the natural beauty, Chaugan Ground of Chamba is meeting place for people these days, and a theatre for national and international tourists in the evening. We are talking about the much awaited and the famous weeklong International Minjar Fair of Chamba which was inaugurated on July 28 with traditional and religious fervour. Many cultural and traditional programmes are being organised during the fair. Different exhibition stalls have been established here to attract tourists towards the fair. Earlier, Himachal Pradesh Governor Urmila Singh inaugurated the traditional eight day long International Minjar Fair. Speaking on the occasion, Urmila Singh said, “Indian culture stands international.” The Governor said that fairs and festivals stand as identity of Himachal.  Along with Minjar Fair, she also visited exhibition stalls put up by various government departments and boards.

Scintillating Punjabi Performances

On the third cultural night of the fair renowned Punjabi and hip hop singer Daler Mehndi created a magical environment with some of his scintillating performances. Ravi da kinara, bolo tara ra, main dardi rabb rabb kardi were some of the songs presented by him. After his performance he told Himachal This Weekthat “singing is becoming a business now but that day is not very far away when it will get its real shape, this cycle will definitely reach its real place.” He told that he came to Chamba after 10 years to perform and coming here is such a great experience. While the fourth night was having performances from different cultural groups and the main attraction was Indian Idol fame Anuj Sharma. Pehli pehli baar baliye, taakte rehte tujhko, maula mere le le meri jaan were some of the songs presented by Anuj on the fourth cultural night. He told that after a long struggle he is now ready to shine in Bollywood as his first Bollywood number will soon come into the market. He also told that people of Himachal only need a good platform to showcase their talent.

Cultural Nights at Minjar

Main attraction of the Minjar Fair is cultural programmes organised every day. Nights of the fair have been transformed into a magical setting where performers from Bollywood and folk artists give their magnificent performances, including Daler Mehndi, Indian Idol fame Anuj Sharma, Sa Re Ga Ma fame Rajeev Thapa, folk singer Karnail Rana and many others. Different types of dance performances are also being performed during the cultural nights of the fair. The first cultural night included the famous Qawwali singer from Maler Kotla Jawed Irshad Rehmat and famous pahari folk singer Karnail Rana. Both presented the depth of folk and traditional music. While Rehmat presented some old qwwalis, Karnail Rana enthralled all by his famous pahari songs included mai ni meriye, dhudu, kaisa laga goriye and some other pahari songs. Rajeev Thapa, the Sa Re Ga Ma fame, was main attraction on the second cultural night and his performance was a mixed presentation of pahari and Bollywood songs which mesmerized the audience.Main tenu samjhawan ki, aaj din chadeya, tum jo aaye zindgi me were some of the songs sung by him. A fantastic dance performance was also given by Lok Kala Munch. Some other western and classical performances were the attractions of the second day
