Palaces of Himachal Perfect Heritage Architecture
The palace attractions of Himachal includes all those colonial as well as historical mansions that have earned due respect for themselves since ages. The most important is the Viceregal Lodge in Shimla, which is better known as the heart of the city. This is a six story building which is enclosed by well maintained gardens and intricately spun legends. Among the list of historical palaces, the name that soars high is Rang Mahal, located in Chamba. This palace has a Mughal influence, that today houses Himachal emporium.
Viceregal Lodge – Shimla
The most talked about mansion is the Viceregal Lodge in Shimla. Popularly known as the heart of the city, the mansion is a six-story establishment with well manicured gardens and a refreshing atmosphere. There are many legends associated with the mansion.
Naggar Castle – Kullu
This is a huge timber structure which is built with logs and stones and mud together. This has been converted into a heritage hotel by HP Tourism. From here one can get glimpse of snow covered peaks, Beas River, and lush greens of valley.
Rang Mahal – Chamba
The Rang Mahal was built during the time of Raja Umed Singh in 1748.The royal establishment is now maintained by the government department of Handicrafts of Himachal Pradesh. The department manufactures various handicrafts such as shoes, slippers etc.
Padam Palace – Rampur
This is the best maintained palace and has huge gardens, trees and serenity all around. The structure of palace is very stylish and has unmatched glass work. The palace was built in 1917 by Raja Padam Dev and today this is private residence of Raja Virbhadra Singh.
Raj Mahal of Mandi – Mandi
This Palace was built by Raja Ajbar Sen in 15th century. It is built like a colonial manor house and has impressive façade. At presen.t the palace has been converted into a heritage hotel. The inside of hotel is well decorated with exquisite period furniture, paintings, swords, and shields etc
