Constitute district Committees to boost child welfare: Guv
Shimla - Governor Acharya Devvrat who is also the President of H P State Child Welfare Council stressed upon constituting local committees at district level by the Deputy Commissioners for speeding up welfare activities being run by the Council across the State. He was speaking in the meeting of Annual Governing Body of H P State Child Welfare Council held at Rajbhawan here today. Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh was also present in the meeting. The Governor said that that in order to boost the welfare activities being implemented by the Council through various institutions like Schools, Ashrams, Balwaris and Creches, there was a need to associate people who were interested to serve the society. He said that local committees of service oriented volunteers should be constituted who would not only serve the institutions but also help in mobilizing charity funds for running them.
He said that service to mankind is true service to the Almighty and added that children were assets of the country. He said that they should be properly guided for becoming responsible citizens in order to strengthen the nation. He said that the locally constituted committees and its members should specially work in this area and focus upon the overall development of children. Acharya Devvrat suggested that temples were centres of faith and inspire people to adopt right path in life hence temple trusts should also associate themselves with charitable activities and come forward to help the institutions with funds and resources. The Governor directed the officers to conduct regular inspections of all the institutions besides interacting with the children and inmates of ashrams to ensure that proper facilities were being provided to them. He said that serious efforts were needed to implement the schemes in right perspective and spending allocated budget for the same so that benefits of the schemes could reach the deserving persons in need. He also directed the officers that meetings of the council should be held regularly besides implementing the decisions taken without any delay. He lauded the efforts of the State Government for formulating various welfare schemes for all the sections of the society especially the vulnerable sections

Addressing the meeting, Virbhadra Singh said that there was a need for strengthening infrastructure for providing more accommodation for working women and asked the department to explore possibilities for constructing a hostel for accommodating atleast 100 working women in Shimla. The Chief Minister said that Deaf and Dumb School Dhalli would be equipped with best facilities including good infrastructure and specialised staff. He said that adequate funds would be provided for the same. He said that alternate accommodation for children of Shishugrih of U S Club Shimla would be provided in a sunny location soon. Virbhadra Singh said that State Government was implementing various welfare schemes for all the sections of the society and every effort was being made so that benefits of the schemes could reach the common man at grass root level. He said that State Government was implementing Mukhya Mantri Bal Uddhaar Yojna for the welfare of poor and destitute children and added that grants were being provided for running the institutions to NGOs and State Council. He further said that State Government itself was running nine children homes for which a grant of Rs 6.50 crore was being provided for bearing the maintenance cost of inmate
