    When after fulfilling Bhasmasur's wish, Lord Shiva got into trouble, then Lord Shiva sat in Samadhi in 50 Feet Stone Shivling at 16 thousand 900 feet above see level. Lord Vishnu burned Bhasmasur by taking the form of a dancing woman, But to break the Samadhi of Lord shiva, Maa Parvati filled Nainsar Lake by her tears, When She did his long Akhand Upasana, Lord Shiva came out after breaking 50 feet stone Shivling from then onwards this Parvat is known as Shri Khand Kailash.

Lord Shiva stay many place like our hearts, Shrikhand peak is one of such place where it is considered that Shiva reside themselves. Shrikhand Mahadev is a pilgrimage place for Hindus. Shrikhand Mahadev is considered to be the abode of Lord Shiva. Its peak is 5155 meters high from main sea level. So it is a place of great attraction for the religious people as well as for climbers and trekkers. It is part of the Great Himalaya National Park (Kullu-Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, India) where the forests and the high altitude meadows are protected and can display their aesthetic beauty. Shrikhand Mahadev peak resembles the Shivaling. Numerous Lord Shiva devotees undertake the difficult trek to the mountain during the main pilgrimage season (July – August). At the top of the mountain there is a small shrine of Lord Shiva.

In the way of Shrikhand Mahadev peak few glaciers also have to be crossed before reaching the majestic peak of Shrikhand. But the difficult trek is not keeping Lord Shiva devotees away. Shrikhand peak is getting more and more visitors. It is usually undertaken to coincide with the Ashada Poornima (full moon day in June or July) as per the Hindu Vikram calendar. It continues till the Purnima of Ashwani month (full moon day of September or October).It is believed that Lord Shiva mediated here. It is also believed that the Pandavas used to visit the peak.


This pilgrimage is surely not for the weak because at times a trekker needs all the skills of an expert mountaineer. The initial phase of the journey passes through beautiful mist-laden forests filled with beautiful flowers and huge trees.Then the journey enters the difficult Himalayan terrain and it takes around seven to eight days and depends on the devotee’s stamina and climate conditions. This trek needs little experience of trekking.
