Kartiek Chandel
Himachal is known for its beauty and its traditional culture. But there is another thing that makes the state different from others. Delicious dishes of Himachal also attract people as mouth-watering delicious Himachali food is favourite of many. But now-a-days mouth- watering delicious Himachali food stuffs have been replaced; by junk, Chinese and Continental food items. Himachali traditional dishes are not only tasty but these are also healthy and nutritious. To preserve Himachali traditional dishes an initiative was taken by Shimla Municipal Corporation for the first time in the state. Six daylong ‘Shimla Food Festival’ was organized at hot spot The Ridge, The food festival named ‘Himachal Pakwan Utsav’ was envisaged to preserve traditional food of Himachal and it brought out the delicious and mouth-watering dishes at reasonable rates. Tourists and locals enjoyed the flavour of Himachali traditional food. Preetam Sharma, Secretary of a NGO, The Platform told Himachal This Week that “We have provided 360 hours training, involving seminars and two days workshop. This was meant for people of weaker sections in our society. It was an initiative to enable them to learn, earn and preserve traditional Himachali food. Approximately 55 people took part in it and learnt to prepare Himachali food under guidelines of six trainers and guest faculty.”
