Virbhadra on Back Foot after LS Election Results

 Himachal This Week, Shimla
Himachal is witnessing hectic political activities after Lok Sabha elections. Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh is seemingly on back foot after the Congress party’s candidates lost on all four parliamentary seats to the BJP in Himachal. Not only the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party leaders are firing salvos at him demanding his resignation on moral grounds, he is also reportedly under fire from his own party men, though, Himachal Cabinet has expressed solidarity in leadership of Virbhadra Singh. The Congress party suffered huge setback in Himachal as it lost all four seats. As a result, Virbhadra rushed to Delhi and met Congress national president Sonia Gandhi and vice- president Rahul Gandhi to apprise them of various issues. However, the focus was on reasons for party’s defeat in Himachal as Virbhadra also pointed towards activities of his opponents within the party, sources said. Chief Minister assured them to take every step for strengthening Congress party in Himachal. On the other hand Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) has sought detailed report within three days from the field on reasons behind party’s defeat. Thereafter HPCC president Sukhwinder Singh is convening a meeting of all block presidents on May 30 and later on of other office bearers. After seeking feedback he will discuss the report with Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh before submitting it to the high command. The feedback is aimed at strengthening the party’s organizational set up and ensuring better coordination between the government and party. HPCC president is also likely to visit Delhi to meet Central leaders. Meanwhile Leader of Opposition Prem Kumar Dhumal has launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister Virbhadra holding asking him to resign on moral grounds after Congress party’s defeat. “He was boasting of Congress wave during Lok Sabha election but now he is feeling Modi wave after the defeat. Dhumal also claimed that entire Congress, barring Virbhadra Singh, was in touch with him and anything can happen anytime. In yet another political development significant for Himachal, name of BJP’s former minister Jagat Prakash nadda is doing rounds for installation as national president of Bharatiya Janata party as present president Rajnath Singh is all set to join Modi government as cabinet minister.
