Boxing Champion.....Sujata..Monika

Sujata, Monika to Prove their Mettle in National Boxing Championship

If you have strong desire to do something then nothing can stop you. Two girls Sujata Chauhan and Monika Mehta have proved this. Both of the girls belong to a small village Narain of Rampur. Recently both the girls are selected for the National Open Boxing Championship which will be held at Shimla in November. Sujata Chauhan was awarded with the best boxer award in the Open Junior Boxing Championship which was held at Hamirpur. She clinched the gold medal in this championship. Apart from this, she has brought laurels for the state by participating in the other prestigious boxing championships outside Himachal. Sujata Chauhan told Himachal This Week that she attended four camps of boxing in Bhopal and is quite confidant to win the next championship. “I belong to a rural background where it is believed that girls should not participate in the sports like boxing but my father Shesh Kumar Chauhan, mother Shakuntla Devi and Coach Devender Pond has always encouraged me to take part in the boxing championships, ” she said. Monika Mehta is also a student in Government Senior Secondary School Narain and pursuing her studies in 10+2. She has also participated in different boxing championships in the state and outside. She has performed well in her last boxing championship which was held in Uttrakhand in the month of May this year. She will also take part with Sujata in the National Open Boxing Championship in November. Monika told that she loves this sport and the whole credit for this goes to her coach Devender Pond. Coach Devender Pond seems to be very satisfied with his student players. He told that he will do his best to make this sport famous in Himachal too.
