Chitkul Last Village of India

Chitkul Last Inhabited Village of India

Chitkul (or Chhitkul), the untouched and remote village of Himachal Pradesh is the last inhabited village of India and situated at the Indo-Tibetan border. It is just 28km from Sangla valley.  It’s the last point in India where one can travel without a permit. The quite and calm village is situated on the banks of Baspa river in Kinnaur district. The place is wide spread with beautiful snow mountains and landscapes. Extremely cold climate is the primary reason for less population here (around 500). From Sangla to Chitkul (via Rakcham) the way is simply fantastic with great scenic spots.
How to Reach
The best way to reach Chitkul is by using a Tourist Cab from Reckong Peo. It is about 60 kms away from Reckong Peo and considered as the last inhabited village at the Old Indian-Tibetan Trade Route. Reckong Peo is connected to the major cities of Himachal Pradesh with the government public buses at frequent intervals in the day time. You can hire a taxi to reach there then you will pass through so many small villages enroute and having your own vehicle gives you the freedom to stop and enjoy the local culture. Yes, transportation would be a big part of the tour cost but its worth every penny since you would be spending a lot of time travelling in the natural beauty of Himachal and in its extreme road conditions
