Situated at the height of 2758 meters above the sea level and 110 km from Sarahan, Kalpa is a beautiful and main village of Kinnaur. Across the river faces the majestic mountains of the Kinner Kailash range. These are spectacular sights early in the morning as the rising sun touches the snowy peaks with crimson and golden light. Kalpa is one of the beautiful and remote towns of Himachal. It is surrounded by Apple orchards and beautiful landscapes. It was the district headquarter of Kinnaur District, that later moved to Reckong Peo. There are very few good hotels (about five) in the Kalpa along the paved road going further to Roghi Village. You can go through the apple orchards to enjoy the beauty of nature and solace of Kalpa. The people of Kalpa are influenced by both The Hindu as well as Buddhist Religion. There is a small but very nice Buddhist temple in a corner of the village.
How to Reach
Reckong Peo is situated about 230 kms from Shimla on National Highway-22 going via Rampur, Reckong Peo to Kaza. Kalpa is 5 km ahead on a hilly terrain going upwards from Reckong Peo. There is no rail or air connectivity to Reckong Peo. The only option to reach Reckong Peo is either by public buses or private vehicles. It takes about 7-8 hours to reach Reackong Peo from Shimla. Sometimes the bus passes through a narrow section of road and the flow of Satluj below that road can shiver your bones with thrill and excitement
