The rising boxing star of Himachal, Shashi Kala Negi has again proved her mettle in the International Boxing Championship held in Serbia where she won a silver medal. The championship was held in Serbia from January 8 to 12. Shashi Kala Negi defeated Romanian boxer in 64 kg weight category to claim the silver medal. She lost to Hungary’s boxer in the final who ultimately bagged the gold medal. Notably, Shashi is the emerging and talented boxer of Himachal who has brought laurels to the state and the country. Earlier, she won gold medal in sub junior national competition in 2010-11 to catch the attention of national selectors. She went on to win national gold medal in junior and senior categories in 2012 and 2013. Shashi Negi has also participated in Junior World Cup held in Serbia where she won a bronze medal for the country. In 2013, she also participated in Senior World Cup held in Bulgaria. Shashi also participated in another international boxing competition held in UK.
Sushma Verma Makes it to Indian Cricket Team

The hill state is slowly producing talent in the field of cricket and its sportspersons are being picked up in the national squads. After the selection of Rishi Dhawan and Nikhil Gangta in IPL, now it’s a Himachali girl Sushma Verma has been selected in Indian Women Cricket Team to play in Women T-20 World Cup. She is among those 30 players who have been finalised in the Indian cricket team for the World Cup. She has been playing outstandingly well in the domestic cricket tournaments. With this achievement she has registered her name among top women cricketers of Himachal. Following her selection, Sushma has already started preparations for the World Cup and will leave for the training camp soon. With her outstanding performances in the domestic cricket, she claimed a place in the Indian team. She has recently played a series against Sri Lanka team in Vishakhapattnam. Women T-20 World Cup will be held in Bangladesh from March 16 to April, 6. Sushma told Himachal This Week that there is very less time left for the tournament. “I will try to give my best and happy with this achievement. However, this is just the beginning,” she adds.
State Level Weightlifting Championship

Himachal Institute of Engineering and Technology (HIET) organised a state level Weightlifting Championship at Shahpur. The competitions were divided in different categories including 56kg, 62kg and 77kg for men and 48 kg, 63kg, 69kg and 75kg for women. In the men’s 56kg weight category, Harikrishan from Kangra won the gold medal while in the 62 kg weight category it was Nirmal Singh from Kangra who clinched the gold. In the 77kg category, Nitesh Rana with his extraordinary performance bagged gold. He lifted 195 kg weight in the 77kg weight category. In women’s 48 kg category, Rozy from Kangra and in 63 kg, Sharda Devi from Chamba claimed gold medals. In the 69 kg category, Anita from Chamba bagged gold. Shivali of Chamba claimed gold after showing her wonderful skills, she lifted 165 kg weight. The local Pradhan, Neena Devi and Vice-Chairman, HIET, Raman Kayastha have given away the prizes to the winners
