Temples of Solan Attraction of Tourists
The History of Solan goes back to the ancient times. Mythologically it is believed to be one of the sites where the Pandavas of the Mahabharata lived during their exile. The area was invaded by the Gurkhas in 1803 – 1805. In 1815 the Gurkhas lost the territory to the British. So, Solan came to be known more as a British town owing to the cantonment here and it cherishes the British heritage. As found in the Himalayas most of the temples are located on the hill top. Same is the case with Solan. The temples of Solan show the excellent stonework of the architects there. Solan has many temples and is often visited by devotees from nearby towns and cities. The Jatoli Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva is the highest temple of Asia and a statue of Lord Shiva is placed there. Another temple which is an attraction of the town is Shoolini Mata Temple. The temple is a place for performing rituals and festivals.
